"He's going to stay with me. He said he'll stay with me. That's all it took."

This whole page is dedicated to media! Most is about animanga. I usually take my sweet time to read/watch something, so it takes a while for me to start something new. If I get really emotionally invested in a piece of media, then it'll take even longer for me to watch/read anything new.

I am mostly interested in fantasy and drama! Some stories I watch/read have mature and/or dark elements, so with that being said, if you don't like something, don't engage with it

My reviews are short, informal, and NOT spoiler free.

Ao ni Naku (manga)

rating: 7/10

I first came across this manga around 2019. One of my mutuals on instagram made a beautiful edit of the main couple and I knew I had to read it. I put it in the back of my mind and I sort of forgot about it. That is, until a few months ago. I was looking back at edits I had in my saved folders and I suddenly remembered the edit. I went looking for the account and after half an hour, I found it and saw the title. I saved it to my TBR and went along my day. Today while looking for something short to read, I landed on Ao ni Naku.

High schooler Shirou comes across a young man dressed as a pilot with amnesia. Shirou decides to take care of the man, who names himself Kiku. The two slowly fall in love with each other, but there is an uneasiness Kiku feels regarding his lost memories.

I really liked the beginning of the story as we see them slowly develop feelings for one another. Shirou is a kind boy, but keeps people at arms length. As we learned more about his upbringing and his loneliness, I couldn't help but love and care for him. Kiku, on the other hand, I had mixed feelings on. At first, Kiku was endearing to me because of how hard he tried to ease Shirou's burdens and give Shirou the love and care he deserved. I loved that he wanted to love Shirou with everything in him. However, I HATED how he handled the whole Kikujirou being his past lover situation. I admit, it was a SHOCK to say the least to find out Kiku, whose real name is Kou, was not only from the past, but was in love with Shirou's GRANDFATHER, Kikujirou. It hurt my heart to see Shirou heart break and learn the truth. Then, instead of Kou assuring Shirou of his feelings, Shirou is the one to assure Kou by telling him he'll settle for second place in his heart??? Ohhhhh I wanted to cry. I really wanted Kou to say something or at least tell Shirou to give him time to sort out his feelings, but noooooo he doesn't deny it and embraces Shirou instead and they sort of move on??? Although we see through Kou's guilt for being at fault for Shirou's loneliness that he loves and cares for him, all Shirou sees is Kou thinking about the past. It frustrated me because without Kou saying anything, Shirou was left unsure about Kou's love for him. It wasn't until Kou decides to go back that he finally tells Shirou that he's not only doing this so Kikujirou can move on, but for Shirou's happiness. Kou promised to come back to Shirou. However, the story ends without us seeing if Kou does come back, but know he does end things properly with Kikujirou so he must have gone back to him. Overall, I did enjoy reading the story and the art was very beautiful, but I just really hate how the situation was handled.
